Ouch! That's Gonna Leave a Mark Dept:

The First of Many Dept:Morning temps below freezing, that is.
It was 36° at my house on the hillside, but 32 in the river valley below. That temp bounced around as I drove to work, reaching 39 at one location just outside of Anchorage.
The truck's thermometer reading dropped to 31 as I reached the district where my building is located, and the temp on the software which controls the HVAC shows 29.4° F. at the roof.
While the lows are supposed to be a bit higher over the next week, I guarantee you this: it won't be much longer before we look back at 29 degrees as the balmy last days of Fall.

Hedging His Bets Dept:
I'm guessing he hasn't made any headlines lately, and so decided an empty gesture was the best way to garner some attention. I'm not going to say the first thing that went through my mind when I saw this headline, because I'd just have to repent all over again.

That is gonna leave a mark. At least.
Ouch, and the pol is trying WAY too hard to please 'everybody'... He's toast.
threecollie, it's a fact that "stuff" happens, but we all hope it happens elsewhere. This lady was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but doing something she loved. I hope she recovers quickly.
NFO, I suspect you're right. That won't go over well, with the majority of voters here.
All I can say is "OW".
For even of a more interesting story. Surviving passenger after an in-flight breakup ended up in a tree on a golf course in the only remaining section of the aircraft with one broken bone. According to rumor, the investigators sorting through pieces and body parts heard her calling for help from the tree after falling 20,000 feet. I want HER Guardian Angel.

Okay, that's more of a "WOW!" than an "ow". Your story for the win!
