This morning is another story, though. It's raining heavily out our way (although I'm at work, now). Poor visibility, hydroplaning with water standing in the ever-present ruts, heavy traffic, and an accident in the left lane and median, about halfway here.
Naturally, since no one in Alaska's ever seen an accident, traffic was backed up for a mile and a half, going only about 8 mph as folks slowly merge into the center lane and rubberneck at the twisted remains of pickup trucks.
Thanks to the water-filled ruts, there were places where I had to slow down to 30 or less, just to keep it on the road. It seems the nice, quiet summer tires on my SUV don't handle standing water at all.
Oh, well. I made it safely here, and can always get new summer tires next spring.

We're debating whether to bother watching the Presidential debate next week. Apart from already having made up our minds, we know that the news outlets will air their favorite clips, making points, distorting and/or adding to what the opponent said, and generally making the audience nauseous.
Oh, I'm sorry ... is my disdain showing?

The debates are always so choreographed that I almost never watch. We will be told what to think the next day anyhow, and like you, we have long since already made up our minds. I saw news stories on that big wind and was concerned about you folks. Glad you are okay. Take care.
threecollie, that's where we're coming from, as well: the so-called "high points" will be replayed endlessly for days and weeks. And the candidates' remarks are so well-rehearsed that viewers can only hope for a break from the scripted remarks.

You're right, of course. There's no particular reason to watch the thing, hoping for a "gotcha" or "aha" moment. It'll be played endlessly for days thereafter, anyway.
I have been watching the Youtube coverage of Hillary's illness....Parkinson's maybe? I had a horrible thought...what if someone made loud noise or strobe lights accidentally went off....would it trigger a seizure? One cartoon had the moderator telling the two candidates the first thing would be to see who could go the furthest on a treadmill without a collapse.
This election gets more and more disturbing all the time.

Fiona, the thick, dark blue sunglasses that Ms. Clinton wears outdoors are designed to prevent seizures. Indoors, it's hard to say what she'll use, but I'm guessing she'll have on some sort of eyeglasses, and for the same reason.
We must have been on the receiving end of your winds. along with heavy rains. Some areas in the Metro are sill flooded and one community is under 14" of water. Their ice arena is now a swimming pool, with ice on the bottom....You know Padre, I don't understand why have the debates. Must of us know who we are not voting for.
