Black Friday ... Whatever ...

Black Friday as a "Reavers Go Shopping" day is something of a bust, this year. The crowds are WAY down at all but the lowest-common-denominator stores, as it appears that a majority of shoppers are doing it the modern way: on-line.

We've already seen news segments with reporters standing in large malls, while two or three shoppers stroll casually behind them. Gone are the days of shoulder-to-shoulder shoppers with multiple bags rushing from Store A to Shop B.

Good.

Call me old-fashioned, but I'm perfectly okay with a shopping day where no one is trampled or shot while grabbing the last big-screen TV.

We had cold temps and blue skies yesterday, despite AccuHunch monologing about how we've entered a new pattern of successive snowy storm fronts. Clouds did move in around dinnertime, and although Wunderground continues to insist that "snow will end around 9:30 am", we've yet to see a single flake.

But it's a frosty, 12-degree morning. We'll do a bit of cleaning this morning, mostly touch-ups, as we're expecting guests this afternoon.

One of those guests will be a Samsung repairman, here to perform the recall service on our washer. It seems we have one of the models that tends to explode on the "bedding" setting. We've used that setting once or twice, but it was so aggressive that it shook the entire building in our last place, so we stopped using "bedding" altogether. Regular wash is just fine, thankyouverymuch. But Samsung insists we must have a remedial repair performed, along with re-labeling the control panel.

So naturally, said repairman is supposed to be here at the same time as our invited guests. Of course.

The girls decorated the main level of the house yesterday afternoon, and it looks all Christmas-y. Nice. New house, new tree, new decorations.

I'm okay with that. :)

Yup. I refuse to shop on Black Friday, if I can help it. I actually despise shopping anytime between now and New Years because of the way people act. Even in grocery stores!

*sigh*

Did your repairman ever show up? Good help really is hard to find now days.

You all have a wonderful, blessed weekend.

My shopping consisted of going to one place, for one thing and of course they were already sold out... sigh

Linda, I do ALL my shopping on-line, unless there's something really, really special (like a firearm) that isn't available except in person.

The repairman showed up 20 minutes early, and did the warranty service in 20 minutes, and gone again an hour before the invited guests arrive. Perfect!

NFO, I hear you, and have shared that experience. My ideal would be to call ahead & tell the store what I want. When I get there, it's on the counter waiting for me, and five minutes later ... I'm somewhere else.

My understanding is that the crowds were sparse.
The on-line sales have taken the wind out of those sales.

That matches the early reports we saw. I'm okay with that.

Rev. Paul,

I love staying away from stores and crowds especially during the holidays. 12 degrees, not for me!!!! It's in the 40's this morning, breezy, with a tad bit of fog. Bulldog Man is hunting hopefully he'll come home this afternoon with a deer. Christmas decorating is so much fun, I know your girls enjoyed putting up the decorations.
Time for me to pull them out and start decorating myself.
Stay warm, hugs to your family.
Sandy

It was a great day, Linda; thank you.

Sandy, to each their own. 40 would be horribly warm for us, and lead to all sorts of melting, & slick roads. :) I hope your hubby got that deer.
