We But Turn Another Page

Unlike many, we don't put any great stock in observing New Year's Eve. Or New Year's Day, for that matter.

The ticking of a clock is continuous, given regular winding or changing of a battery. One second is much like the last, and it's unlikely that Eternity cares. Marking the passage of time is a popular habit, though, and I'm not belittling those who do so. To each, his or her own.

I personally get much more excited by the knowledge that with each passing moment, we're that much closer to Jesus' return, and that's something to REALLY celebrate!

But 2016 has not been a pleasant year, to hear most people tell it. Between terror attacks, a bitterly divisive election cycle, and everything else going on around the world, most are ready for the thing to end.

Personally, we had a very good year. We moved out of the big city and a deteriorating neighborhood, bought a home, replaced three vehicles, and our younger daughter escaped injury in a serious accident. I had a health scare which turned out to be nothing at all.

So we'll stay home, munch on some snacks, and watch a movie or two. And, if this year is like many previous Eves, we'll go to bed around the usual time. And probably be awakened briefly at midnight by fireworks.

But all in all, we've nothing to complain about. So to all of my readers, I say "Happy New Year!" in hopes that it will be, for each of you.

Thank you for stopping by, my friends. May God bless you all.

We don't celebrate New Year's, either. It's just another day.

When we were first dating we went out a couple of times on New Year's, and of course when I was young it was "PARTY TIME!!!".

Anyway....Happy New Year to you and yours, Rev Paul.

God willin' and the crick don't rise, we'll be non-celebrating New Year's in Colorado this time next year.

Jim, I pray the Lord leads you to the house you should buy, and speeds the process along just like He did for us.

First year in your new house, right? Don't think you'll hear any fireworks unless you have a neighbor closer than it seems...
We have neighbors across the street, and they rarely set off enough big stuff for us to hear.

We'll be asleep, too. ^_^

Thank you, Reverend, and may God bless you all, too.

Linda, Alaskans wait until New Year's Eve to set off their big stuff, because it's this time of year when the long dark nights warrant a light show. During the 4th of July, falling just two weeks after the summer solstice, it's still daylight & all you can see is the smoke.

We'll hear fireworks, but it will be muffled & mostly distant.

Ah. I don't remember from when we were there. But it was a long time ago, haha!

Let it be an uneventful, blessed night for everyone. In Jesus name, Amen.

Yep, that counts as a good year! The only thing I'm going to watch fall is my eyelids... :-)

Agreed, sir. Sounds like a good plan. :)

This year (and maybe this is just a benefit of getting older) was, on the whole, better than some but not as good as others. Better or worse, there is a new one coming.

Happy New Year Reverend!

TB, I had to remind myself of all the good things that happened this year, in large part because the Presidential campaign season was so bitter that it colored my perception. It helps to look back & do a recount of blessings. :)
