About That Kick in the ...

... well, you know.

The story has a happy ending. When we notified DMV that the old car had been sold, we provided the date of sale and the buyer's name. And they confirmed today that the sale is part of the record. What we apparently didn't do was to include his mailing address. (I call "bogus!" on that, because I remember writing it down. But never mind.)

Anyway, thanks to a friend who knows how to do practically anything, we pulled up the guy's mailing addresses - he has a lot of them - and will provide both the address he used 4 years ago, and his current address, to the DMV tomorrow.

That will complete the record, and end the issue.

What it doesn't end is this towing company's attempt to bluff us (read bully us) into paying a debt which they already knew wasn't ours. They apparently hope that WE don't know it.

Guess again. (Thank you, Laura and Griz!)

Letters are also on the way to the Consumer Protection Unit of the Attorney General’s Office, the Anchorage Municipal Assembly, and - for whatever it's worth - the Better Business Bureau.

Yippie yi oh ki-yay!

Sigh. Had a version of this problem with the toll authority of my state. Not nearly as bad as yours and they were very accommodating, once I went through the whole process of filing the complaint and providing the paperwork. Still, the second time it happened after I had notified them was a bit aggravating...

Rev. Paul,

Great news!!! Glad to see you're following this incident up with letters to the appropriate people.

I'm going to be a nice girl and not finish Bruce Willis' slogan :P

Messed with the wrong folks, they did.

Ed - yes, absolutely! He answered our collective prayers, and in short order. We couldn't do this without Him.

TB - some agencies have to be hit between the eyes with a 2x4. "There. Now that I've got your attention, listen up..."

Sandy - I understand the temptation. It was a quickly passing thought in my mind, too. :)

PH - yes, they did. We struggled too hard, and too long, to build good credit, to allow some podunk small-timer to mess things up for us, now.

Well done! I was concerned about this. Glad you had good info and got it taken care of.

Thank you, ma'am. We didn't when we started, but good people jumped to the rescue & told us what we needed, and how to get it.

Good for you!
When I bought my 'current' car (in 2002) there was a glitch because the disposition of an earlier car (in 1995) was unclear to the DMV. (I had bought another car in the interim, and everything was fine! BUREAUCRACIES!)
ANYWAY, the car in question was the one in which I had the accident. :-(
I faxed the cover sheet of the accident report to the DMV, and the whole matter went away...

PS - the BBB is private organization who 'blackmails' companies into complying with their requests for info. How do I know? They attempted to do that to me and a business partner, by saying if we didn't provide info, they would report to others we failed to comply. With a fee, of course!
A 'negative' even if there was nothing wrong!
&(^%$&!

Guffaw, I'm glad your DMV issue was so easily resolved. I trust that our issue with the towing & impound company will also go away soon, now that the car sale is properly documented.

Re: the BBB, I'm aware that they don't document whether a company is good or bad. It's all about how quickly the company responds to complaints. Hence my remark about the dubious value of their reporting.

We get by with a little help from our friends... and thank the good L-rd that you have 'em.

Sorry to hear the car's been a headache!

Yes, thank the Lord for friends who are willing to help out. And the car hasn't been a problem - it was a good car, and served us well. The problem has been the DMV & the new owner. That is now solved.
