They're Awake

... and the time of year when they're not around has drawn to a close.

I was wondering about that when I saw your header picture the other day...if that was from this spring or late last autumn.

Those tracks look good size. Do you get many bears near your place, or do they stay further out in the bush?
Every year we get black bear wondering through, checking out the bird feeders in this area. Usually mid May when the young ones are scoping out their own territory.

Suz, that picture is from November, right after the first heavy snow. We have blackies around here; the grizzlies stay closer to water, down in the valley below us.

Sandy, that's pretty much any time. We had a bull moose in the driveway, a couple of months ago, standing just out of the light. But we could hear him snorting as we walked to the truck.

Ed, the one with the claws is a bear. The other one? Hmm. :)
