God's Word for 6/7/17

What a beautiful thing, God, to give thanks,
    to sing an anthem to you, the High God!
To announce your love each daybreak,
    sing your faithful presence all through the night ...

My ears are filled with the sounds of promise:
    “Good people will prosper like palm trees,
Grow tall like Lebanon cedars;
    transplanted to God’s courtyard,
They’ll grow tall in the presence of God,
    lithe and green, virile still in old age.”
Such witnesses to upright God!

Psalm 92:1-2, 12-15 (MSG)

Exactly what I needed to hear. Today is my 71st birthday. I was feeling a bit bummed at that fact, but your post reminded me of what is important, chased away the blues and let in the sunshine of God's love. Thank you.

Interesting Reverend. I think sometimes the Church has lost this concept, the hope of growing "tall like trees", of thriving in challenging times - or that this is something that we can aspire to with God's help. At best, we seem to just hope we are attractive shrubbery.

TB, I believe you're right. The modern Church has ceased to expect His promised rewards for following certain commandments. It's apparently arrogant to expect Him to honor His promises.

For example, the Bible says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Luke 6:38, NIV) So if you give generously, you are supposed to expect that He will bless you so that you can give generously again and again.

There was a movement, a couple of decades ago, believing that "God said; that settles it." I wonder whatever happened to those folks?

Thank you, Reverend.
And thank you, Lord, most of all.
