Another Day in the Rain

So Younger Daughter, who sells jewelry on the side, is setting up in the Lions' Club park a couple miles from here. Hundreds of vendors, including multiple choices of food, and fireworks at midnight.

It's been drizzling steadily since the overnight hours, so my lovely wife and I offered to set up the canopy. Since it's windy as well as wet, we stretched tarps on three sides to keep the summer weather out. Ha! (And note to self: buy more bungee cords.)

Now that the canopy's up and the jewelry distribution around the tables is underway, it became clear that I was a 5th wheel, so I'm safely back home.

AccuHunch promises, with their very best scientific guess, that the rain will end sometime between 5 and 9 pm. But, this being Alaska, folks are used to wet and cool.

We're also quite used to AccuHunch having no flippin' idea what they're talking about. But I digress.

Meanwhile, I have a Cabela's flyer to peruse, and good books to read, including the latest from JL Curtis:

Ah, that moment when you realize that you have suddenly become a liability rather than an asset....

Supposed to spike at 95 F here today (we are only getting down to 75 at night so we have a moving daily range of 20 degrees). We may very well be without all the kids today - the first time in 18 years this has been true? Kind of weird.

Please let us know how the book is - I am always looking for reliable reads.

TB - absolutely; it was clear that I was no longer needed, and had no further role to play. Your temps are WAY too warm for us. We're to reach the low 60s today, or so they say. It's currently 53, but at least the rain has stopped.

Regarding the kids: enjoy it while it lasts, because they keep coming back. :)

The book is excellent, and contains a lot of characters with fellow bloggers' names.

I never got into the Rimworld books.

We were mid 90s with plenty of humidity to go around.
I pray that the good Lord will keep the firefighters safe out West where several forest fires are burning.

That must have been some wind. No duct tape to help? ;-)

I hope you all have a safe, blessed 4th, Reverend.

Linda, this is the first Rimworld book. I believe you're thinking of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Jim's just getting started, and it's not the same at all. Pratchett's books are comedies; Rimworld is military sci-fi.

The tarps were too far apart to use duct tape. Bungee cords were the only answer. Thanks.

You are probably right. Thank you for the correction. I may have to look for Rimworld then. The only book comedies I ever liked were the Xanth novels.
