God's Word for Thursday, 7/6/17

“Take a lesson from the fig tree. From the moment you notice its buds form, the merest hint of green, you know summer’s just around the corner. So it is with you: When you see all these things, you’ll know he’s [the Lord's] at the door. Don’t take this lightly. I’m not just saying this for some future generation, but for all of you. This age continues until all these things take place. Sky and earth will wear out; my words won’t wear out."

Matthew 24:35 MSG

One of the most inter-Christian verse discussion points ever, all around something which I am sure was meant to be clear and comforting.

And I'm sure you're spot on with that remark. The vast bulk of the scriptures are so clear that it takes a theologian to muck it up. And yet, they're so good at mucking it up ...

A good verse. And a good point.
Thank you, Reverend.

It is true more often than not, Reverend. I am not a theologian, but a basic knowledge of literature tells most people when things are to be taken in the literal context and when they are to be taken in poetic or analogous context. Alas, we have often confounded in the two in Scripture for no other reason than it fits our own ends.

You're welcome, Linda. Thank you for being a faithful reader/commenter. :)

TB, your last sentence says it all.
