Saturday Shopping at -7°

Black Friday means tens of thousands of shoppers all heading toward Anchorage on the lone highway.

We avoid it like the plague.

Today, however, we needed a few things, so off we went at 09:30, before the Reavers and zombies hit the stores. Gas in the truck, renewed membership at Sam's, a few more decorative trinkets for the living room, and some odds & ends at Wally World.

-6 at the house, -7 along the river, -1 at the stores. If it gets much colder, I'll have to zip up my coat.

I remember the days of -10 or 15 and finally zipping up my coat and putting on gloves when I lived up in Fairbanks. Been quite a number of years since I enjoyed that level of cold!

Hi, J.D. It's amazing how quickly we acclimate to the cold weather; I always look forward to it. Thanks!

It is not cold until you need to cover your ears.

You know, WSF, I believe you're right.

Somehow, NFO, I'm not surprised. :)

You get the military membership at Sam's, right? The gift card isn't much, but every little bit helps. :)

Stay warm and get your stocking cap (or parka hood) ready. ;-)

You all have a blessed week! Hard to believe the year is almost over. :-O

Jim, that's just flat too warm. I hope you're enjoying it; I wouldn't. :)

Linda, no - wasn't aware they had one. Will have to ask. And yes, this year has flown.

WHT, thank you. T Day was a good one.

Yeah, it's just way too warm here. Some plants that were dormant have started budding again, which means when we get hit with a freeze, all the buds will drop.

Last time we were here for Thanksgiving it was minus 12 when we headed for the hotel from the in-laws place!

There's nothing like consistency, Jim, and that's nothing like it. Sorry.

Here in northern Utah I always am looking forward to the cold and snow by the time the summer heat peaks. I guess I just like it better than the heat. Maybe that is because I was born and raised in Maine.

We rarely have any summer heat, but I'm as excited as a school kid when the first flurries appear. Guess you never outgrow some things. :)
