Beating Back the Forest ... Again

We spent much of the early afternoon mowing, trimming, whacking weeds ... lather, rinse, repeat ... and managed to push the encroaching Chugach Forest back for another week. What was a smallish clearing in a heavily-wooded backyard has become a passable back yard, some of it level enough to permit easy walking (smile), and permits us a place to escape the noise of civilization.

The back yard looked like this when we bought the place two years ago:

More-or-less the way we found it, with little work yet done.

After clearing a few trees, and starting the pavers and footpath for the barbeque grill, a year later ...

and looks like this, today:

It's been a lot of work, although worth it, and more work remains. But for now, we have a place we can enjoy.

PS. Wanted to say I always enjoy the pictures on your banner, but especially the little cabin you had up the past few days. :)

Thank you, Suz. Re: the cabin, that's an original prospector's cabin north of Fairbanks, near the El Dorado gold mine which is still in operation today. :)

Rev. Paul? You MUST have very very good hearing to be able to hear the 'noise of Civilization' from there. You are in Alaska in the woods. Ain't You?
Nice Yard, Nice Pictures. Enjoy.

PS we've been to the El Dorado Mine and I think I've been to the Cabin pictured.

Rich, I wrote it is an escape from the noise. Mostly, anyway: there's a military base a few miles away, so we hear planes, helos, automatic weapons & artillery from time to time. Otherwise, it's pretty quiet. :)

Thank you for the kind words about our ongoing reclamation efforts. You've probably been to the El Dorado; anyone touring in the Fairbanks area will mostly likely have stopped there. It's an interesting place.

Looks great Reverend. Spending time at my parents' place, I forget what a premium I put on quiet - well, maybe quiet with birdsong.

Very nice! :-D

Thanks, TB. The quiet is awfully nice; people keep asking us if we go camping, and we say we already live in the woods. :)

Thanks, Jim.
