It's Been Awhile

since I picked up either of my guitars, but my buddy Andy came over tonight. We're starting up our twice-a-month jam sessions after nearly six months.

It was a good night, considering how long since I put fingers to strings. Everything from AC/DC to Boston to Journey to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and even some John Denver, Harry Chapin and Roger Miller just to round out the evening.

And a good time was had by all.

If we can reestablish our regular practices, perhaps I can get something recorded which could be reproduced here.

Did I mention it was fun?

Live music is always a treat, and if you're good enough to be one of the ones making it, it's extra special.

I'd rather play music than almost anything else. Been playing instruments since '63, and the guitar since '69.

It's a lot of fun to make music. I had clarinet and guitar lessons, but all I got out of it was being able to sight-read music. That came in handy in high-school for Boy's Glee Club, and then the A Capella Choir, where I got into stage production and performing in musicals. I continued this through College and did a lot of community theater.

The audience response is what hooks you after a while. I'll never forget the first time I got an audience response from a line.

Play On, Rev Paul! It's good for the soul!

It is certainly fun to make music with one or more other people.

drjim, I promise to do so. Thank you!

Ed, you’re so right. I’ve been playing in bands and/or orchestras since 1964, and there’s nothing else like it. :)

It always strikes me as odd how I do something of this nature and remind myself of how much I enjoy it and then think "Why do I not do this more often?"

You're not alone, TB. :)
