The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from the Consulate at Bergen, Norway.
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard of temperatures in the Arctic zone.
Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.
Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.
Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coast cities uninhabitable.

Oh, by the way ... I neglected to mention that this report is from November 2, 1922 as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post 96 years ago. This must have been caused by Model T Ford emissions, and coal-fired power plants that were being planned but had not yet been built.

Considering that here in Minnesota we are only a few inches away from the record of the most snowfall in February, I would say that report might have been a bit off. Then - now. :)

Linda - it does seem to be indecisive. It would be somewhat more funny if they weren’t trying to use our money to “fix” it.
Sadly Reverend, this comes across more and more as a direct power and money grab rather than an actual attempt to solve an issue.

What everyone forgets is at one time the entire earth was much warmer than it is now...I am sure that the dinosaurs were not driving anything around back in the day. All the progressives forget (or never learned) about history before they were born. Drives me nuts!
The danger is with all the Chicken Littles trying for more money and power, a real threat will be met with skepticism. That could be fatal.
Heh heh heh. Hey, wingnuts - Long Island is a glacial remnant left when a glacier retreated 10,000 or so years ago. You find me proof that retreat was caused by evil humans and their combustion engines and I will sign over my entire income for a year.
