God's Word for Sunday, 4/14/19

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 KJV

Friends, let me go over the Message with you one final time— this Message that I proclaimed and that you made your own; this Message on which you took your stand and by which your life has been saved. (I’m assuming, now, that your belief was the real thing and not a passing fancy, that you’re in this for good and holding fast.) The first thing I did was place before you what was placed so emphatically before me: that the Messiah died for our sins, exactly as Scripture tells it; that he was buried; that he was raised from death on the third day, again exactly as Scripture says ...
1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 MSG

Reverend, I am becoming more and more convinced that this basic message is being missed more and more by the church at large.

I believe you're absolutely correct. To admit one's on failings, an implicit declaration of dependence on Jesus' sacrifice, is anathema to modern society. No one wants to admit they're inadequate.

And to declare dependence on our Creator is to admit there are consequences to our actions, for which we'll be held accountable.

For which I am eternally grateful. Thank you, Lord.

Have you ever wondered what Gospel Jesus was preaching before His death and Resurrection?

Rev. Paul said...

Ed, He talked about His Father and His reason for coming. He preached principles of how the Kingdom works, and gave examples of how we should behave in our future roles as His representatives. But I think you know all that. 😊
