The Snow is Teasing Us

AccuHunch keeps telling us that there are heavy snowstorms just to the north ("just" meaning 100 miles or so. That's a stone's throw in Alaskan terms.) But our temps keep edging up to the upper 30s and low 40s, just a bit too warm for the white stuff.

Meanwhile, we wait. Snow tires are installed on all four vehicles, and air filters have been changed out for the winter season. Summer, while relatively short, is extremely dusty here: sandy soil, glacial silt, and volcanic ash are all a permanent part of ground cover.

The snowthrower is oiled and lubed, and a fresh supply of fuel is waiting. So we're as ready as we can be.

The long-range winter forecast, always involving guesswork, varies. One says heavier-than-normal snowfall, another says icy snow and freezing rain. It depends on the temps, but all the forecasts are calling for "normal".  That means the white stuff.

Bring it!

I heard it snowed in Oklahoma yesterday..
Upper 50s and low 60s here. Nice change.

The area which received 10" yesterday is only about 60 miles north/northwest of us, as the raven flies. It's more like 80 or 90 miles by road, but snow doesn't care where the roads are. :)

It's a beautiful, sunny, 73* here today!

But tonight we have a strong cold front coming through, and we're forecast to get 6"~12" over the next three days.

Batteries are charged for the snow blower, and I have a couple of new cans of silicone spray for it.

I'm not gonna say "Bring It!" because it'll come here when it's ready!

Our temperature dropped last week into the 60's and 70's. Autumn may actually be here.

jim, I'm jealous of your snowfall. And yeah, it'll show up on its own time. :)

TB, I hope that's what you get ... assuming it's what you wanted.

We've had a couple frost warnings but being in the woods tends to protect us from that until it gets serious. But my feral cat moved back into her insulated shelter on the porch last week, so she may know more than I do.

I hear you. Our cats are so fuzzy right now we’re thinking winter’s gonna be a doozy.
