Another Saturday Morning

It's -11° F. here at the ol' homestead, with a thick blanket of white on the ground. We're grateful for a couple of things: the snow both provides nutrients to the soil for next spring, and insulates underground utilities from the winter temps.

The forecast makes it clear we won't be seeing another post-snowfall warm-up.

Today:  high of 1°, low of -6 tonight.

Sunday:     -2, -7
Monday:     1, -3
Tuesday:     0, -6
Wed:           2,   0
Thurs:        15, 10
Friday:       14, 11

Finally, some decent winter temps. :)  Our temps will be a few degrees cooler. We don't live in Anchorage, but we're close enough that the forecast is similar.

Alaska news:

  • A fishing vessel, the Scandies Rose, sank in the Gulf of Alaska. Two survivors found; five others missing and presumed dead. The Coast Guard searched for a couple of a days (that's a LOT of water) and found only an empty life raft and some items of foul weather gear floating on the surface.
    • The survivors said it was "ten minutes from sleeping to swimming". The ship was sailing under warnings of high winds and icing.
  • A Cessna making an emergency landing at Fairbanks flipped over. Pilot and passenger were not injured.

Finally, this word from God's Word:

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?Micah 6:8 KJV

But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously.Micah 6:8 MSG

Prayers for the family and friends of the Scandies Rose.

Praise God for no fatalities with the Cessna.

Thank you, Lord, for your constant love and compassion.

I was checking out at a home improvement store in Lafayette. Showed the cashier my military ID for my discount.
She asked if I had heard about Trump starting WWIII.
Of course I had to explain he did not do that.
It was just the stupid liberal twist.
60 and sunny here. :-)

Almost 70 F here today Reverend, and about the same tomorrow.

Saw the news about the crab boat elsewhere, but did not see the part about being under a warning. That makes it all the worse.

Imagine being in the clerk's shoes, Linda; a week ago she was still trying to figure out why Trump wasn't removed from the White House when he was impeached. :^)

Given normal temps, TB, we won't see 70s again until July or August. Regarding the fishing vessel, I'm amazed that the story was seen anywhere outside of Alaska. Most of the time, the Lower 48 ignores our existence; a fact for which we're extremely grateful.

Prayers for the families of those sailors. And you can keep that weather!

We weren't planning on sharing it, if that's what you mean. ;)
