Apparently AccuHunch expects us to reach 19 or 20 above on Sunday. That will feel quite temperate in comparison to what we've seen since New Year's Day, and we might do some grilling.
Of course, with the warm-up usually comes snow, so we might get more of that. What's on the ground here has sublimated or otherwise compacted to about 8 or 9 inches. But once the snow has blown through, we'll be back in single digits, with subzero lows.
Such is life in Alaska, and I'm really not complaining. It beats the heck out of freezing rain and ice, which nobody wants. The last few winters have been too warm.

One winter - just one - I would like to try in a winter climate. Just to see. I think I know the answer, but one never knows. Cold does not bother me so much, especially if one is not outdoors a great deal.
Over here in Kenny Lake (Copper Basin) we have not been above -25 in nine days and -40 last night. Supposed to be in the single digits above by Monday.
TB, there are good coats, clothes and knit underwear to keep you warm when you do go out.
When we were younger, hubby and I enjoyed it.
Pretty sure the arthritis wouldn't like it now though. Too bad.
Maybe some summer.
TB, it's not so much of putting up with the cold, as it is protecting yourself from it. With enough of the right kind of clothing, footwear, hats, gloves, etc, it can be quite fascinating. The snow gets crunchy underfoot, the air is so crisp and clear, and it's a whole different world. :)
Howard, I hear you. You're an order of magnitude colder than where we are. The proximity of Cook Inlet/Knik Arm moderates the temps here. The coldest we've seen this year (so far) is -20. Stay warm over there.
Linda, if you have enough of the right kind of clothing, as you suggest, you could probably tolerate the cold for a visit. If you get chilly, you could always volunteer to clear someone's driveway; that'll work up a sweat in no time. :)
You go right ahead and enjoy that. I'll stay down here where it's warm! :-) and those are good words! The Lord DOES have our backs!
I know it's not for everyone, and definitely not for you. And yes, He DOES have us secure in the palm of His hand.
