"Musher Jessie Royer is the first into the Ruby Checkpoint. This means she won the Yukon Award. The award comes with a five-course, gourmet dinner prepared at the checkpoint by Chef Bobby Sidro of the Lakefront Hotel.
Royer checked into Ruby at 6:37 a.m.

The top 20 racers have completed their 24-hour layovers at Cripple, and are back on the trail. Jessie Royer is once again in the lead.

Lance Mackey's mother passed away last April; he's racing with her ashes onboard, this year. "I know she's smiling from ear to ear," he said. (I erroneously reported far different circumstances, earlier this morning. My apologies.)

I followed the link and there is a short video of Jessie telling DeeDee her sled had caught on fire! Yikes! And she still made it into Ruby first! Wow is all I have to say.
I love the different prizes along the trail. It is nice that they can end up being shared among different contestants.

Suz, I don't recall ever hearing of a sled catching fire, before. But it's certainly attention-getting. :)
TB, it gives the exhausted & sleep-deprived mushers something to focus on, and provides near-term goals as they reach the most trying part of the race.
