On-Campus Carry: "Force The Issue"

From the Anchorage 2nd Amendment Task Force:

UA Carry Situation

Saturday April 24, 6:30 PM Mei Garden 800 Northway Dr.
(The Old Royal Fork near Sams Club)

Attention Alaska Patriots
Anchorage Second Amendment Task Force has with other organizations attempted to bring University of Alaska in compliance with state statutes and the state Constitution regarding firearms on UA properties. UA Board of Regents have refused to comply with the laws of our state and continue to violate our rights to keep and bear arms. We will be accessing all UA properties in Alaska next week with the intention of forcing a conclusion. Either the Board of Regents will arrest law-abiding citizens for trespassing while doing what is constitutionally protected, or they will refuse to engage us. We will win legally, or by rendering the rule limp. We do have Pro Bono representation for any who require it due to this action. I anticipate national media coverage for this event, so represent with the dignity we all exemplify daily. For all interested in participating with bringing our overreaching government officials into compliance with the constitution please contact me at alaskasccc@gmail.com. This will occur next week so prepare now to force compliance of our government.
Thank you

It Can't Contradict Itself

I just swung by the local post office, trying to find a correctly-sized shipping box, and I noticed once again the signs prohibiting firearms and other deadly weapons on USPS property. This, next to a dozen or so good ol' Alaskan boys with an assortment of Leatherman pouches and Buck knives. Yeah, right.

As an intellectual exercise, I wonder:

a) since the General Government* is a creation of the States and the Constitution they adopted, it follows that the G.G. cannot exceed its own Constitutionally-established authority; and
b) said Constitution states that the people have a pre-existent right to keep and bear arms, and prohibits Congress from making any law which infringes upon that right; and
c) any entity created by a contract has only the powers which the signers codified in writing, therein;

therefore the USPS prohibition against firearms is prima facie unconstitutional. The federal judge who likewise ruled, a few months back, that the GG has the right to declare some of its land off-limits to firearms was wrong, too. Or, to put it another way, a federal entity must not restrict a federally-protected right on federal property - it's a contradiction to do so; it's the one place where those rights should be the most zealously guarded.

I do understand the concept of creating a weapons-free zone around a VIP, such as the President; it makes sense to establish a safe perimeter. But that's not tied to the land ... it moves with the person.

That being said, it's the law of the land whether Constitutional or no. I won't violate it, because incurring the wrath of the GG is definitely not a good idea, when it can be avoided.

But it is another aggravation; there seem to be a lot of them these days.

Thursday Thoughts / Odds & Ends

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms … disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
~~ Thomas Jefferson

“Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the Democrats believe every day is April 15.”
~~ President Ronald Reagan

"It is sobering to reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence."
~~ Charles A. Beard

This is no longer a "news flash", but Bristol Palin & her fiance' Levi Johnston have split. No significant details are available, but you can read about it, if you haven't already. It's a shame, but it's also a fact that young people sometimes make bad choices. That's why you know who they are, after all.

House vote stalls Alaska refuge road plan
Legislation that would set aside more than 2 million acres as protected wilderness and allow a road through Alaska's Izembek National Wildlife Refuge stumbled in the U.S. House today but is expected to get another vote soon. (copyright Anchorage Daily News)

As promised, the new Interior secretary will be holding a meeting in Anchorage to talk about his plans for offshore drilling. (Daily News) We'll see if the new administration will keep their promise on this deal. Any bets?

The weather this week is teasing us with a hint of spring; it has warmed into the mid-30s in the afternoons, and the snow is getting slushy. It also makes the roads a mess, but it's nice to have sunlight that's strong enough to feel.

We still have quite a bit of snow on the ground, and could still snow quite a bit more before this season draws to a close. A late-April blizzard isn't out of the question. In 2004, we had snow on the ground until mid-May. You never know!
