Thought for the Day

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected?
I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher.

As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.

~ Abraham Lincoln

Love him or hate him, Lincoln was right on the money with this one.

Abraham Lincoln On the Declaration of Independence

The truths of the Declaration are eternally relevant, a perpetual call to honor liberty and the dignity of the individual ... Our republican robe is soiled, and trailed in the dust. Let us re-purify it. Let us turn and wash it white, in the spirit, if not the blood, of the Revolution.

~ Abraham Lincoln, from a speech given in Peoria, Illinois in 1854

I don't agree with many of the actions taken by President Lincoln while in office, but he was certainly on track, here.

Quote of the Day

Property is the fruit of labor. Property is desirable, is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise ... I take it that it is best for all to leave each man free to acquire property as fast as he can. Some will get wealthy. I don't believe in a law to prevent a man from getting rich; it would do more harm than good.

~ Abraham Lincoln (quoted in The Freeman: Ideas on Liberty)
