God's Word for Tuesday, 12/31/19

Thus saith the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters; Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:16, 18-19 KJV

This is what God says, the God who builds a road right through the ocean, who carves a path through pounding waves, The God who summons horses and chariots and armies— they lie down and then can’t get up; they’re snuffed out like so many candles: "Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’ —the coyotes and the buzzards— Because I provided water in the desert, rivers through the sun-baked earth, drinking water for the people I chose, the people I made especially for myself, a people custom-made to praise me."
Isaiah 43:16, 18-19 MSG

What Alaskans Do on a Day Off

This is the short section of the 275' driveway.
We take turns so that no one works up a sweat. That can be deadly in really cold temps. Fortunately, it's only 19° today.

Now we fire up the grill and make some wonderful burgers seasoned with Kenai Premier sauce, and some others with Moosetard's Alder-smoked mustard. Those are Alaskan brands made in Kenai and Fairbanks respectively, which are roughly 500 miles apart. But luckily for us, also sold locally.

As I said yesterday, our New Year's Eve will be a quiet evening at home.

So all y'all take care out there, and have a great evening, however you choose to celebrate it.

As 2016 Approaches

The grace of our Lord Jesus the Anointed, and the love of God the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Be blessed, protected, happy, healthy and prosperous in the coming year.

What a Week It's Been

It's been a week to remember: hurricane-force winds, temps 25 degrees above normal, what little snow we had is melted now, and a plane crashing into an office building in downtown. By the time the winds reached their peak, there were wide-spread power outages from north Anchorage all the way to Wasilla (some 45 miles as the eagle flies) from trees falling on trunk lines.

This morning it's in the low 30s F., with scattered light rain showers. That's still 15 degrees above normal. And that's just here, around Anchorage.

Freak snowstorms across the Lower 48, heat waves, tornadoes, massive flooding ... the list goes on and on.

But all this got me to thinking (a dangerous pastime, I know) about unusual weather patterns. In the Bible, the Lord has used freakish weather as a harbinger of sovereign acts wherein He took an active role in events.

At the risk of going out on a prophetic limb, I'm keeping an eye on politics and conflicts around the world. And especially on Israel, and the various Islamic threats to that nation.

I expect unprecedented and unusual signs and wonders in the next weeks, both around the world and in this country. Yes, I could be wrong ... but I don't think so.

It's all going according to the Book.

In the meantime, let me wish each of you a happy, safe, and prosperous new year!

Thoughts for New Year's Eve, 2012

As 2012 draws to a close, it's hard to be optimistic about the new year. Gun control (Obama now promises to push hard for new legislation), massive tax increases coming from all directions (not just the so-called fiscal cliff, but socialized medicine, too), and increasing hardships for lower- and middle-class Americans.

But God knows what He's doing, and we are commanded to pray, and seek His face. We must ask Him to reveal to us what we are to do, and then do it. He promises to take care of those who seek Him, and we'd be foolish not to lean on Him.

Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. (Matthew 6:34)

May the new year bring us new revelations of God's goodness and provision, and may He deliver His people soon!
