Okay. Here's part of how Alaskans deal with long winter nights ...

We also have our biggest fireworks display, not on July 4th, when it doesn't get dark, but on New Year's Eve. Anchorage also asks residents to string white lights on their homes, businesses, trees, hedges, or whatever, during the darkest months to help offset the gloom. LED lights literally cost pennies to operate, so it's not necessarily a financial burden to leave them on.
Personally, I'd rather see the stars and northern lights. But that's just me.
