There's not much of interest in the news, other than purely local stories. But y'all will remember that the Yukon Pass R.R. suffered a derailment last week. Here's a report on the investigation:

Skagway-Canada Train Derails; Nine Injured

According to a copyright report at www.ktuu.com, "A train on the railroad that runs from Skagway to Canada derailed Wednesday afternoon, with nine people suffering minor injuries."

The White Pass and Yukon R.R. train derailed sometime after 3 p.m.

No Surprise There

I recently wrote about nine railroad cars in Fairbanks which rolled into a couple of delivery trucks and a building.

Seems it was "operator error" which caused the "malfunction."

Gee, who could have imagined that?

There Wasn't Anything They Could Do

Nine flat railroad cars loaded with pipe separated and rolled away during a switching operation at the Alaska Railroad's Fairbanks yard late Monday.

No one was injured, the railroad said in an email Tuesday. The nine loaded flatcars hit a small trailer loaded with sheetrock, rolled over a stack of plywood and shoved into two box delivery trucks.

 The cars rolled 672 feet, said railroad spokesman Tim Sullivan. The yard is almost entirely flat, Sullivan said. They didn't roll fast, but they also couldn't be stopped.

"Once it started moving, there wasn't anything they could do," he said.

Where's Superman when you need him?  Ouch!
