Quotidian Tuesday

quo·tid·i·an  [ kwō tíddee ən ]
ADJECTIVE
1. commonplace: of the most ordinary everyday kind
2. done daily: done or experienced on a daily basis

The day began with clouds, warm-ish temperatures, and a light sprinkle. It's quiet this morning in the office, and the only issue so far is a tenant who thinks that it's "silly to have a Wednesday off", and therefore wants to stay open on the 4th of July.

While they're welcome to work whatever hour they want, they couldn't explain how they hope to attract customers on a national holiday. Whatever.

Does this seem strange to anyone else, or is it just me?

* * * * *

The newspaper is full of fluff and twaddle this morning, unlike yesterday when it only had fluff. With all the things going on in the world today, and a national socioeconomic melt-down underway, they're concerned about a) whether an alleged militia leader from Fairbanks is paranoid and ordered his followers to shoot Federal agents, [they are, and he did, but that's not my point] and b) whether he's of "the far right" as represented - in the op.ed. writer's not-so-humble opinion - by Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. They aren't.

Yeah, because they are, or were, in Falwell's case, well-known for urging followers to shoot people. What kind of moron thinks that? Apparently, the kind that writes these pieces for the local fishwrapper.

Have the best day you can, folks. Thanks for stopping by.

A Day in the Life

of a minister on sabbatical:

0745: stumble out of bed with no clue what time it is, since sunrise today won't be until after 10 a.m.

0755:  make coffee, stare numbly at the pot while wondering what's taking so long.

0810: fix three cups of joe, handing one each to wife and daughter*, and sitting down with mine. Check weather forecast (temps around freezing, with snow showers).

0830: Refill cups for wife & me while daughter stares at hers. Remind daughter that the coffee won't help until administered internally.

0845: Mourn because the coffee's gone, while debating whether to make more.**

0900: Breakfast, brush teeth, comb hair and shave.

1000: Check tire pressure & coolant level in truck; add a splash of antifreeze and drive to gas station for air.

1015: Put empty boxes from garage in back of truck for off-site disposal. Turn wife's car around so the block heater can be plugged in.

1030: hang fluorescent light fixture in garage, tripling lighting levels therein.

1045: finish hanging the light; retrieve wife & daughter so they can admire my handiwork.

1100: put away ladder and flashlight, clean up.

1110: write blog post about it.

And you thought this was all glitz and glamor!

*    Note I didn't specify which daughter, so no tender feelings get all grumpified.
**  Put off second pot until after lunch.
