Accu-Hunch Was Right

There's snow in the forecast for tomorrow night, Monday, and Tuesday. Not a lot, but still about a month earlier than usual. It's 34 & windy this morning; although they expect a high of 50 today (possible, if the sun stays out), it's only expected to reach 41 tomorrow. Then the rain changes to snow after that.

Looks like I got my winter tires installed just in time.

Older Daughter is having hers installed as I write this, so the two 4x4 vehicles will be ready. The two sedans are a lower priority; if there's an unexpected snowfall, we can carpool.

The best part of all this is that the tire shop is having a "winter sale", which means 25% off the purchase of four tires.

Saving money is a good thing. :)

Wednesday Morning Mayhem

Okay, maybe not mayhem ... but not my favorite thing to do.


For better or worse, I'm just as much a creature of habit as anyone. We're in the throes of the "seasonal change-over" when everyone has to remove the studded snow tires & go back to highway tread. We've traditionally done that at the Sam's Club nearest our home ... but we need to buy new tires for my wife's car.


We purchased it in November, and the original tires were bald. We put studded tires on it right away, so now we need the new summer tires - and Sam's Club doesn't have that size in stock. May 1st is the deadline ... so we called around and found plenty of that size at the other Sam's Club, on the other side of town.


So we got up early & drove all the way over there, at 7:00 this morning, and found that the service department doesn't open until 10 a.m. Fortunately, the lady at the customer service desk is an old acquaintance of mine, so she had a guy go get the tires for me. I paid for them, handed over the key, and my wife & I drove away in my truck.


So I fuss too much. At least the tires are available somewhere. The supply line can be tenuous, up here, so never mind.


Once the car is finished today, we'll need to take the truck to the other Sam's, to have those tires switched also. Then in October, we get to do it all over again.

Other news, with less whining: The Chevron Oil platform & storage tanks at Drift River, near the volcano, may remain closed until fall - or until the vulcanologists are convinced that Redoubt has gone back to sleep.


Satellite imagery & even the web-cam, prior to sunrise, are showing incandescence at the lava dome. Additional explosive events are possible with little or no warning.

Our weather: sunny for the third day in a row (yay!) and clear, with a high of 48 today - according to AccuHunch. They've been right, this week, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.
