My lovely wife and I committed matrimony on this day in 1980. We've had better and we've had worse, just like the vows say. But we've never had regrets. And I love her with all my heart.

UPDATED: It Was 40 Years Ago Today
that Sgt. Pepper taught the band ... Oh, wait. Wrong subject.
This is a milestone year: I turned 65 earlier this month, today is our 40th anniversary, and my lovely thoughtful bride will be ... well, let's just say it ends with a zero, and call it good.
She was radiant in a lovely white gown, and I (for a reason known only to God) was in a winter-weight white tux with tails.
Our reception that evening was in the city auditorium - a stand-alone gymnasium. And as is typical with a hot, muggy day in the Midwest, the evening was interrupted several times by power outages from the raging thunderstorm outside. The band, however, was quite good; they would wait for the power to come back up, and then kept on playing without missing a beat.
At one point, my new brother-in-law was so hot that he went out and just stood in the rain for awhile. When he came back in, he looked just as wet, but felt cooler. Meanwhile, my winter-weight tux was hot and equally sodden, although I'd long since shed the jacket.
My maternal grandmother was there, and danced several of us young bucks into the floor. I was strong as an ox in those days, a warehouse worker lifting 120-pound parcels all day. The others were mostly firefighters, and she outlasted all of us. She's been gone for more than 35 years, but that memory will be with me until I'm gone, too.
There have been ups and downs, heartache, occasional pain, and many, many happy and glorious times. We've experienced the "for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health", just like everyone else.
I was madly in love with her then, and am deeply in love with her now. She's my best friend, confidant, companion, and mother of my children. I cannot imagine life without her. She's a quiet woman, but a woman of deep feelings and surprising wit (at least for those who don't know her well). She's strong, independent and capable - and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I am truly a blessed man.

... we committed matrimony. I'll take a break from the usual blogging, light though it may be, for the nonce.

God's Word for Thursday, 5/31/18 & an Anniversary
On this day in 1980, my lovely fiancée became my wife. 38 years and counting!

But now for something even more important:
"And then this: We can tell you with complete confidence—we have the Master’s word on it—that when the Master comes again to get us, those of us who are still alive will not get a jump on the dead and leave them behind. In actual fact, they’ll be ahead of us. The Master himself will give the command. Archangel thunder! God’s trumpet blast! He’ll come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise—they’ll go first. Then the rest of us who are still alive at the time will be caught up with them into the clouds to meet the Master. Oh, we’ll be walking on air! And then there will be one huge family reunion with the Master. So reassure one another with these words."

This, That, the Other, and a Want
Thank you, to all who left comments and/or e-mails regarding our 35th anniversary yesterday. 'Twas a good day indeed.

A brief note to several who were thrown off by the snow in the "old aircraft" photos I re-posted. Those pics were taken about three years ago, on a late winter's day. Sorry; it wasn't my intention to mislead anyone.

Two light planes collided at low altitude at the Talkeetna airport yesterday, one of which was a Cessna 185 (an air taxi). The other was a student pilot in a Cessna 172, who was the only one injured. Details can be found by clicking this paragraph.

And lastly, WHY ISN'T THIS REAL???
That's about it for now. Thanks for stopping by, friends.

"Politics doesn't make strange bedfellows; marriage does." ~ Groucho Marx
My wife and I have been married 33 years today. We committed matrimony in 1980, on the first day of a heat wave that lasted until October. The underpowered air conditioning in the church struggled to cope, and almost did.
She was radiant in a lovely white gown, and I (for a reason known only to God) was in a winter-weight white tux with tails.

The others were mostly firefighters, and she outlasted all of us. She's been gone for nearly 30 years, but that memory will be with me until I'm gone, too.
There have been ups and downs, heartache, occasional pain, and many, many happy and glorious times. We've experienced the "for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health", just like everyone else.

31st on the 31st
May 31, 1980 was the date on which we said "I do" to each other. I reminded The Daughters that it's the only time we'll have our 31st on the 31st, so they've been officially notified we expect something nice.
No, girls ... nicer than that. Heh.

30th Anniversary Weekend
28 May 2010
Warm Friday, Long Weekend
News alert: Gov. Parnell signed the Alaska Firearms Freedom Act yesterday, making firearms, accessories and ammo manufactured in Alaska for in-state use exempt from federal regulations.
Let the ATF posturing begin...
∙ This morning's temp was 52 at 5 a.m. Of course the sun was shining, but that's not the issue; rather, the fact that it's already 10± degrees warmer than yesterday at this hour. Mr. AccuHunch is forecasting a high of 70 today; yesterday's official high was 77, although my thermometer said 78. Not enough of a difference to matter, I suppose.
∙ My wife managed to finagle a day off, today. She and the girls will be doing shopping, cleaning, and laundry during the day. Suddenly I don't mind being in the office ...
∙ The wildfire near Tok has expanded to 2,000 acres this morning. While that's still quite small by Alaska standards, it directly threatens Tok and surrounding areas; many residences are threatened. The highway was closed briefly, and firefighters say there may be intermittent closures throughout the day, depending on winds blowing smoke across the road.
Why do I mention this? Because the Alaska Highway, which runs through Tok, is the only road in/out of Alaska. Lower 48 folks have no idea how fortunate they are to have multiple access roads for travel. For those of us in Anchorage, the state line is 7 hours away, and that only gets us to the Canadian border and the Yukon Territory.
Blogging will be light-to-nonexistent this weekend, as Monday is my 30th wedding anniversary, which I will be celebrating with the most wonderful woman I've ever met. (Yes, it's my wife, ya silly...)
Have a safe holiday, and please take a few moments to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us - which is the reason for the holiday.
