About Those Navy Memories...

One reader asked me to follow up the "Boot Camp Memories" post with one about shipboard life.
So I've started an outline.

Here's a teaser - a picture of the first place I worked after boot camp and "A" school:

"Space is limited" takes on a whole new level of meaning on a 1945 destroyer. :)

Just saw my son's office on the sub.
Smaller. And he's a SCPO.

Yep; no contest. Almost any surface craft bigger than a Zodiak will have more space than a sub.

Rev. Paul,

Hey there dear friend, hope you and your family are well.
Now I remember those desks....in fact, my dad had one of those in our Crestview, Florida home. What a small world :-)

Sandy, we are well. I'm not surprised that someone kept one of those desks. They're surprisingly spacious, since I'm sure you know the secret. :)

The Air Force had some slightly larger ones in the offices for many years. And I think we called them "old gray battleships". :-)

Looks as if the key may be organization and dedication to same. Thanks for this.

Linda, we always figured it was "ship envy". :)

threecollie, the secret is that the top lifts up (see the handle thru the uprights on the chair), and a typewriter was underneath. It swung up on a pivot & formed a level surface just lower then the original desktop.
