threecollie, the secret is that the top lifts up (see the handle thru the uprights on the chair), and a typewriter was underneath. It swung up on a pivot & formed a level surface just lower then the original desktop.

Yep; no contest. Almost any surface craft bigger than a Zodiak will have more space than a sub.

Sandy, we are well. I'm not surprised that someone kept one of those desks. They're surprisingly spacious, since I'm sure you know the secret. :)
The Air Force had some slightly larger ones in the offices for many years. And I think we called them "old gray battleships". :-)
Looks as if the key may be organization and dedication to same. Thanks for this.
