Frosty Morn, 12/13

It's about 5 degrees at the airport, but I don't live there. It's -2 at my place ...

We've all been out doing some shopping this morning. The new car seems to have an issue with the rear side windows not wanting to clear off. At these temps, any condensation that forms then instantly freezes. I suspect the major issue is the short trips - on a longer jaunt, they'd clear off ... eventually. I hope.

The full moon was spectacular, wasn't it? Very nice, and very bright. Unfortunately, just about the time the sun was to climb over the mountains, a fog rolled in over those same mountains and has now deposited a layer of hoarfrost on the tree tops. It looks neat, but baby it's cold outside!

I spent a half-hour on the phone with my mother, who is recovering from a stroke. She's doing well, the therapists tell her, but has lost the use of her left hand, for now.

She sounds okay, although the stroke was slowed her speech; it makes her sound tired, but she still has her wits about her. We thank God for that. In fact, she sounded more like her old self today than she has for several months.

It seems to be getting darker outside, as I type this. The fog has risen to a low overcast, and left us in a frosty shadow. It's pretty, but we were really hoping for some sunlight today. This time of year, the sun is only above the mountains for about 5 1/2 hours. There's usable light for nearly 90 minutes before and after, so it's not dark for as many hours daily as the sunrise/sunset times would make you believe.

That's enough for now, so let me wish you all a restful weekend. Be of good cheer, friends.
