Mother's Day

Good morning!

Many, many bloggers are writing heartfelt messages about - or to - their mothers, or mothers in general. Many, many of those bloggers are far more eloquent than I.

Let me just say, then, "Mom: thank you for everything. I love you," and "Happy Mother's Day" to my wife and all those who read these few words.

* * * * *

It's partly sunny with a high overcast this morning, and 46 degrees this morning. Leaves have finally developed to the point that the trees are green. Having just come through eight months of barren tree and winter weather, we're hoping for a long summer season, too. It's not likely, but still we hope.

My daughters took me to see two movies yesterday: Star Trek and Wolverine. I've been a fan of Star Trek since 1966, when I stumbled across the original series by accident, and began watching it on our old black-and-white TV. This movie captured the essence of the characters very well, without the actors having to imitate the original cast. It's the first movie I've attended in nearly 30 years where the audience actually cheered at the end.

Two of the movie characters - Spock and McCoy - do physically resemble the original actors. But it turns out not to be an important aspect of the story; it's just a nice coincidence. There is a single thread in the story line that is jarring, and not in keeping with the original series; it bothered me, but I chose to overlook it because, in the end, it doesn't really matter.

It starts out strong, and finishes stronger. If you like Star Trek at all, then you'll absolutely love this film.

The Wolverine film is exactly what you'd expect from the fourth movie in the X-Men franchise, with a coherent and cohesive storyline. The character is well-developed by now. Several other well-known mutants are introduced and featured. A good and enjoyable movie, but not a great movie.

I've given my lovely wife a bouquet of roses, and my youngest fixed breakfast. Now the wife is off to a local spa for some well-deserved pampering. I'm going to see into what kind of mischief I can get.

I should take Patrick to Star Trek. He was always a big fan of the show. I remember him talking to the tv telling some character how to fix his space ship. Too funny.He never went so far as to dress up or go to conventions, he just enjoyed watching it. Thanks for the MDay wishses. Mine wasn't that great, but then I miss seeing my 2 big "kids". CHurch this evening turned me around & I was better then.
