The apparent cause of the accident, shortly before 2 p.m., was a strong gust of wind that apparently pushed the Beaver hard to the left; the pilot couldn't climb out of it before hitting ground next to a Lake Hood canal, said Howard Plagens, the NTSB investigator.

A scan of the cortex reveals little else of import taking place this morning. I'll leave it at that.

AccuHunch is guessing we'll have mostly sunny skies & 66 degrees today - not bad at all. With this stable pattern in place, they're likely to be pretty close.

Y'all have a great day - thanks for stopping by.

Man, it breaks my heart to see that Beaver all twisted up like that. Those planes are real workhorses and growing scarcer with each passing year.

You're right. There are a LOT of them up here; they've very popular - not least because of their large wing area, allowing them to glide well if power is lost.

It's painful to see that picture, though.
