Saturday Afternoon - On the Road Again

After getting the daughters off to their destination, my wife & I went shopping. We're looking for a new bedroom suite. In the six years that we've been in Alaska, we have upgraded all the rest of the furniture (several times, as income and opportunity have increased), including both daughters' bedrooms, but not our own. It would be nice to have some pieces that actually match, instead of the hand-me-downs we've been using.
.
I also wanted to go to some gun shops & price reloading equipment, but that's probably better done with I'm alone, or with Oldest Daughter. Wife & Youngest don't care about reloading or ammo ... they just want to shoot!

After the shopping, we grabbed a bite of lunch and set off for parts unknown. Technically, we drove some familiar roads, but wanted to just keep going past the areas where we've turned around, in the past.

We wound up on a back road, north of Eagle River. The mountainsides above town are beautiful there, and I could just sit on a rock and lose myself in the spruce for hours.
.
We stopped briefly at Lower Fire Lake, where I hoped to get pics of a floatplane taking off or landing, but none of them were moving. There were several families fishing near the boat cliff. Normally, I'd say "ramp", but this one drops off at a 55 or 60 degree angle. It's where the people in this photo are standing:

We watched a Suburban with a fairly small fishing boat backing into the water, and the truck's front wheels were threatening to leave the ground as the boat trailer dangled from the hitch. A little too steep, there!

We also came across a couple of old cars, which made me feel young again.

I thought sure we'd see a few moose today, like usual, but there were none. The only birds we saw a lot of were seagulls. The weather was sunny & 60 degrees; that was a nice touch.
.
Our 3:00 rain didn't get here until 5:30 today. Mother Nature must be slipping!
.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. Have a great weekend!

I hope you and your family have a great weekend too; it looks like you are. I love the photos, Alaska is so beautiful. Unfortuantely, now you have SR asking why I never take photos of the local area and post them.

We just replaced all the hand-me-downs in the livingroom and the kids' rooms, but we haven't gotten to our room yet. So I definitely know what you are talking about.

I'm sorry if I created a problem for you vis-a-vis the pictures! Everyplace has its own beauty and points of interest; we just live in a place that has a LOT of them.
