Here's a little local news, which several of you have mentioned that you like:
- More smoke gets in your eyes: a large Interior Alaska wildfire sparked by lightning more than three weeks ago continues to increase in size, but firefighters say they are making progress. The Railbelt Complex fire 12 miles from Nenana is actually three separate fires, and at 161,344 acres it was the largest fire in the state on Wednesday.
- Too much is never enough: another ethics complaint has been filed against Gov. Palin, by a person who had previously filed four other complaints. This is the third complaint filed since Sarah Palin announced that she will resign from office on July 26.
- Life is stranger than fiction: something big and strange is floating through the Chukchi Sea between Wainwright and Barrow. It's thick and dark and "gooey" and is drifting for miles in the cold Arctic waters, according to Gordon Brower with the North Slope Borough's Planning and Community Services Department (and nearly 12 miles long, according to the article).
- Flying is still hazardous: two men (one from California, the other from Oklahoma) were killed yesterday when their small plane crashed near Wasilla.

I can't believe that Gov. Palin has to put up with this crap. I don't suppose the person's name is public who keeps doing this. I would like to file an ethics complaint on this person for wasting everyone's time and taxpayers dollars.
Nevermind, I just read the article. So it is a she, everyone has been saying he on the news reports. I guess I should have known, liberal women have been particularly cruel to Gov. Palin.
The cruise sounds like a blast. Have you ever been to Juneau before?
DR, the complainant is Linda Kellen Biegel - she wants to be known as a "somebody". She's also a former (and maybe current) DNC operative. What a surprise, huh?
I spent two weeks in Juneau in 1975, but haven't been there since.

I just read about the big black blob that's going to eat Alaska (well not quite that, but it's what one would think on reading Fox News headlines - LOL). Had to come see if it got you yet. Glad to see you are on the job reporting about it.
We always say we're going to go back to the 2 or 3 places we went on vacay over the years. I hope you're better at it than we are - we have yet to revisit anyplace except those places where family makes it imperative.

I remembered Gov. Palin saying that most Alaskans have never been to Juneau; I assume because there are no connecting roads. But, a lot of people here have never been to Madison.
DR, that's possible. It's accessible only by air or sea, and not cheap. The ferry trip for my family of four would be $3500 round trip, and we have to drive 5 hours to get to a place where we could catch the boat. Flying would be cheaper, but the ferry visits more towns.
$3,500 is insane. Who could afford to do it more than once? I refuse to fly anymore, too many kids. Especially, with the way security is now days.
That amount pays for a cabin with four berths, crossing the Gulf of Alaska twice. Having said that, it's too expensive.
We have to fly, given our location on the planet. The alternative (driving through Canada to reach the Lower 48) takes too long. It's a 6- or 7-day drive from here to Missouri, for example, depending on how long you stay on the road each day.
