Saturday Morning - Visitors, Odds & Ends

It's been a good week here in Lake Woebegone Anchorage. MoBro and I have been, and done, and gone ... and seen as much as I could work in. We couldn't find any moose yesterday, but it doesn't surprise me much; it rained all day, and no self-respecting member of the deer family would be out & about in mid-afternoon in the rain.

We picked out some decent souvenirs for him, and I got him some more things this morning. He hasn't seen them yet, as he's sleeping in to prepare for the red-eye to the Lower 48.

Youngest Daughter (YD) has outdone herself this week, in terms of food preparation. Last night, we had cheese-drenched baked halibut cheeks, which were absolutely to die for ... or at least, the halibut died for it. We decided that living (and eating) are more desirable.

Earlier this week, she fixed mustard & peach pork, glazed salmon filets, and several other dishes using Alaskan-made spices. We've discovered a Fairbanks-based company called Moosetard, which makes mustard-based seasonings from glacier water, birch syrup and berries, for Alaskan fish and other meats. Yumm! MoBro has been blown away by the variety, and the flavors, and YD has earned many accolades from all of us.

For lunch, we're having cranberry chicken. Don't you wish you were here?

* * * * *

* I hear some large-caliber rifle fire from down the hill, meaning the serious hunters have dragged out the big guns (literally) and are sighting-in for hunting season.

* It's 54 and rainy this morning, although the rain has stopped for the moment. Looks like the sun is trying to peek through the overcast, too, without much luck. AccuHunch is only predicting 55 for today's high, so we'll see.

* Anchorage's Finest have a couple of "oops" stories in the local paper, today. They processed a bank-robbery suspect without noticing he had a bullet wound in his back. A patrol car also struck and killed a pedestrian in the wee hours, this morning. To be fair, it was raining at the time.

* It appears there's been a fresh gold strike in the Klondike, in the same area as the Gold Rush of 1898. This time, it seems they may have found the mother lode - read about it here.

That should hold my urge to share, for now. Thanks for stopping by.

Yes! Wish I was there. Sounds like YD is a budding chef! Have a good weekend.

When will you have YD post some of her lucious recipes?

Sounds like MOBro now has more incentive to move up or at least visit more often.

Not to rain on any parade, but next door neighbor reported he saw two bull (neither of them legal) moose between his place and ours.

I'm glad you had a wonderful visit!

Busy weekend. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. Here? Cleaned Brass. Watched Corn grow. That's about it. :-)
