Monday Afternoon in the Great Land

Due to the extended spell of temps hovering within a few degrees of zero during the day (and below at night) I'm late applying petroleum jelly to the door gaskets on our vehicles. My wife reminded me that she couldn't open the driver's door on her car on Friday. Oops. Okay, this afternoon it is.

Update: it's amazing how fast the petroleum jelly becomes stiff & unworkable at 4 degrees.

Alaska Governor Sean Parnell "says he has the best interest of polar bears at heart, but he doesn't intend to let the federal government's expanded protection for them get in the way of the state's continued prosperity." ~ snip ~ "Currently some are attempting to improperly use the Endangered Species Act to shut down resource development," Parnell says. "I'm not going to let this happen on my watch."

Go, Sean! RTR of this copyright AP story in today's Daily News by clicking the link.

Some ladies of the feminine persuasion suspect that their drinks have been tampered with, in downtown bars. Some say it might be the date-rape drug, but no sexual assaults have been reported. Story here.

Everybody, their brother, and their great-uncle twice removed has been writing about Sarah Palin's appearance on Oprah today, and her book release tomorrow. Other than being mildly amused by the frothing-at-the-mouth hysteria on the left, I won't get involved.

You know, if they weren't feeling threatened by Mrs. Palin, you'd think they'd just ignore her.

It seems Governor Parnell is also proposing a five-year plan to rebuild some of the State's infrastructure. It ain't sexy, but it needs to be done. Bully for him, for paying it more than lip-service.

We've made it up to 7 degrees; I think that's as warm as we'll get today. Oh ... Joated, it should be in the mid-60s for daytime highs when you're here, next July.

I'm sorry, Rev. Paul. I just have to say we didn't see zero today, it was -16 when I got up and is -17 right now :(

Oh, did you see the ADN article about Drue stepping down, AT the request of BO? Now, Begich gets to put forth a name (Dem, of course!) *sigh*

Definite kudos for Gov. Parnell! He is quietly getting the job done!
