Thursday in the Snow

It was snowing sideways as I drove to work this morning. AccuHunch is telling us that snow showers will develop later this morning, with a possible accumulation of "up to an inch". We had an inch before breakfast, and the blowing snow on the highway is slowing traffic ... a truly impressive bit of weather, since Anchorage drivers rarely slow for anything.

The snow continues to fall at a steady rate.

From today's paper, this: One of the Alaska legislators who was convicted for corruption was
"trying to get his conviction thrown out on the grounds that prosecutors failed to turn over critical information to the defense before the trial -- the same basis upon which another federal judge threw out the case against former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens.

"A federal judge ruled late Wednesday that former Alaska House Speaker Pete Kott received a fair trial in 2007 on corruption charges and that the "court has not found a sufficient basis" to order a new trial or dismiss the case."

Oh, too bad.

The local paper is filled with stories related to the Haiti 'quake, and the Alaskan connection ... and didn't you just know there would be a connection? I suspect similar stories are airing all across the U.S., since it appears that all local stations operate from the same playbook.

One local brother-sister team was on the fifth floor of their apartment building when the 'quake hit, and found themselves suddenly only a few feet above ground level, but trapped by rubble. Neighbors dug them out; he's okay, she will probably lose one leg from the knee down, as it was crushed by debris. Their parents, here in Anchorage, are both relieved and concerned, but it seems a U.S. doctor got the girl on an Army ambulance, and the Army flew her to Florida for treatment.

There's not much else going on this morning. I'm sure I'll be back with more, later. Thanks for stopping by.
