An Afternoon's Drive, in Pictures

Here are just a few photos from yesterday's drive to the south. (Click for the ooh, ahh factor.)

Heading south out of Anchorage, along the Turnagain Arm.

Halfway to Girdwood, near Bird Point.

Nearing Girdwood.

High in the Kenai Mountains.

Looking north (on the way back) near Turnagain Pass.

I remember those views from last year when we went to Moose Pass Ak on a Mission Trip there to help with a constructin project for Moose Pass Community Church.
We loved the whole 8 days in June we were there! So want to return!! In fact our middion leader and constructioon dude is getting ready to spend the summer there running the mission crews coming to help remodel their new church building. Bringing his whole family wife and 3 little boyz...Beautiful up there, just fantastic.

Purty!

My favorite direction so far is over towards Copper Center/Chitina. The Appalachians sort of sing with a seductive beauty. The Alaskan mountains club you over the head and drag you back to the cave.

I see you also got the coveted rear-end-of-the-RV view. :)

Gorgeous! Just gorgeous! Great shots. One day I'll get up that way... I really will.

MM - yes, Moose Pass is that wonderful wide spot on the highway with a maddeningly slow speed limit; if you come back, give me a holler & let me know.

Jenny - I have dozens of back-of-the-RV shots. :( And I understand about the Appalachians ... the Ozarks, too.

Teresa - you really mustn't miss Alaska if you can help it.

The mountains are beautiful. I seen on Twitter today that a volcano may be going off a thousand miles to the west of Anchorage. Is that close enough to affect your air quality?

DR - the ash cloud won't directly affect Anchorage, but if it gets up to 50,000 or 60,000 feet, it might cause problems for the air traffic.
