A man who stopped breathing during his arrest by Anchorage police earlier this week, and then was hospitalized on life support, has died, police said today.

... Police say Mitchell had several medical problems and had been drinking heavily the night of his arrest, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. Police think Mitchell, who was asthmatic, may have been suffering from an asthma attack during the arrest, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said.

A 3-year-old boy was killed this morning after picking up a gun and accidentally shooting himself, according to the Anchorage police.

The father told police that the child found the gun on a TV table and shot himself around 9:15 a.m. ... As the investigation continues, police are releasing few details about the case. Police think the shooting was an accident, but charges are still possible ...

WASILLA -- State troopers say a man died when his plane crashed into trees near Susitna Landing boat launch north of Willow. Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said troopers had just arrived on scene at about 2:20 p.m. and did not yet know the type of plane that crashed or the identity or age of the pilot. The plane was still upside down in the trees, Ipsen said.

Not a good day at all.
