All this info comes from today's Anchorage Daily News:
The Alaska Legislature will meet on Jan. 18 to begin its 2011 session. Here are a few highlights:
HB 5: "American Constitutionalism History Literacy Act" - designed to establish curriculum standards at all grade levels to teach and test the history of "American Constitutionalism", with a focus on the philosophies and historical context. Includes the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Federalist Papers.
HB 8: Seeks to challenge the federal government's authority to make Alaska do anything the State deems unconstitutional.
HB 22 & 35: Makes talking on a cell phone while driving illegal. Hands-free devices/headsets are exempted.
SJR 1 & HJR 6 would establish an 8-year limit on how long legislators may serve. That's two 4-year terms in the Senate, or four 2-year terms in the House.
HB 70 would clarify the State law regarding misspelling & other mistakes on write-in ballots, in keeping with the AK Supreme Court's recent decision in the case of Miller v. the Secretary of State.

One other item of interest:
In an article entitled "Parnell warns of too much federal control", Governor Sean Parnell says "Alaskans need to push for a stronger state role in their economic and political future to avoid too much federal control."
He references recent regulatory actions by the U.S. Department of the Interior and it's Fish and Wildlife Service, among others, as justification for his stance.
"We have a message for Washington: We want our state back and we are going to take it back," he said.
1 comment:
The AK Supreme Court were supposed to interpret the law AS IT WAS WRITTEN at the time it was brought before them NOT interpret it as they THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE thus prompting the legislature to rewrite the law to comply with their "interpretation" which was plainly wrong because they did NOT rule IAW the law as written at the time it was brought before them.
Just more evidence to the humongous pile of the corruptness and criminality of our courts and judges.
