John 12:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a near miss between two commercial airplanes that flew within 150 feet of each other Tuesday above the Fairbanks International Airport. One of the aircraft was forced to dive to avoid a collision, said Clint Johnson, an NTSB investigator based in Anchorage. "This is an extremely close call." The incident came at about 1:20 p.m. when air traffic controllers cleared an Era Alaska PA-31 Navajo for takeoff. Meanwhile, a Beechcraft 1900 operated by Warbelow's Air Ventures was flying the final leg of its approach for a landing, Johnson said. At the direction of controllers, the Navajo took off and turned right just as the Beechcraft -- inbound from Galena and reportedly full of passengers -- passed below, Johnson said. "The Beech 1900 had to take evasive action, basically had to dive to get out of the way," Johnson said. "They had to push the nose down to keep from hitting this plane with its tail."
