More Fun From Unalaska

From their "Police Beat", here are some items that tickled my fancy:

Welfare Check – Caller reported an extremely intoxicated man, having difficulty walking, near the elementary school.  An officer contacted the man and confirmed that he had a place to stay and would be able to stagger to it without assistance.

Animal – Animal Control Officer responding to a barking dog complaint found the dog owner’s grandson sleeping outside in a doghouse.

Welfare Check – An officer checked on a young boy who had earlier been sleeping in a doghouse, and learned that the boy did not feel well and missed school on a regular basis, and that his mother was busy with her boyfriend.  Information passed on to Alaska Children’s Services.

Theft – Woman reported that two cell phones were stolen from her bunkroom, possibly by men whose names she did not know, during a large party held two months ago.

Domestic Disturbance – Officers responded to a report of possible fight, complete with glass breaking and items being thrown from the house, at a local residence.  Investigation indicated a drunk had returned home without his keys and elected to throw lawn furniture through a plate glass window in order to gain entry to his home.

Years ago, when I was with a small-town police department in the Midwest, we used to get regular midnight calls from an elderly woman who was convinced - absolutely CONVINCED - that thieves had stolen her house while she was asleep. In that house. You know, the house from which she was making the report.

We'd all just shake our heads, chuckle, and go try to soothe the poor old gal so she could get back to sleep.

It takes all kinds to make a world, and sometimes those "kinds" seem to be over-represented in a given area. :)

People get lonely and/or scared of being alone sometimes and 911 is an easy answer, I guess.
