Amazing How That Happens

Early this year, gas prices in Anchorage shot above $4 per gallon, and peaked around $4.45 ... where they remained until the "high gas prices will hurt Obama's reelection chances" stories were suddenly everywhere.

And, coincidentally enough,* prices began to fall almost immediately. Today we're under $4.00 (specifically, $3.99/gallon) for the first time since February.

I wonder how that happened.**

* Not really.

My town is down right at 90 cents a gallon from where it topped out. I trim my excitement by the fact that, when all factors considered, it should be down at least double that.

You noticed that, did you?

ONFO: thanks.

Matt: agreed, but it's summer-time. Might have fallen more quickly in the winter, when the oil companies aren't so demonstrably, um, greedy.

PH: oh yes - have been commenting on things like that for years. You can predict increases (by the dime) and decreases (by the penny) by the calendar, most years. It's infuriating, but that's the way it works.
