A big-budget film about the 1925 serum run from Seward to Nome that's now commemorated by the annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race will star Kurt Russell and Hillary Swank. It is a uniquely Alaskan tale.
Why it's being filmed in Alberta, Canada is anyone's guess.

It's quite possible, although as the article points out, Alaska offers one of the most generous incentive programs for filmmakers.
Oh, well.
My guess would be the scenic trees vs. coastal plains.

Can't imagine a real film crew going into the wilds of Alaska to do what the Hollywood folks do.
Given that the Iditarod folks produce some great footage EVERY SINGLE YEAR! Hollywooders just aren't made of the right stuff.
