An Early Start

The deadline for the "seasonal changeover" (i.e., an Alaskan rite of passage from winter to summer, removing the studded snow tires & mounting the street tread) is May 1st. Older Daughter put it off until today, since she was instructing a group of newbie shooters at last weekend's Appleseed Shoot.

She headed out to Big Box Club to get in line at 5 a.m., as it's first-come, first-served, and they only accept the first 15 or 20 people on Saturdays.

We were up by then, enjoying our first cups of coffee while trying to get both eyes open & focused at the same time.  (Don't laugh, young readers: your turn's coming.)

She texted that she was first in line - a good thing - but neglected to take breakfast along. I finished that first cup, swung by Mickey D's for McGriddle & hash browns, and had a warm meal in her hands by 5:20 or so.

Returned home, had a second cup, and then took Younger Daughter to her job at 6:30, since she doesn't yet have her license. She will be taking the road test soon, and has saved enough to get her own car this summer.

Then at 10:00, I was standing in line outside the DMV to renew my driver's license & plates on the family car. Fortunately they were fully-staffed, which doesn't often happen, and I was out the door 15 minutes later; I think that's the shortest visit I've ever had there. The place was packed to the rafters when I left, so those folks were spending a big chunk of their weekend at the DMV. Me? I've got better things to do.

After lunch, there's some shopping to do: all my slacks are baggy now, and I need summer shorts that will stay where I first fasten them. It's strange ... you lose 35 pounds, and your clothes get bigger.

Funny how that works.

Hubby wants to know 'how' you lost that weight.
He's a doc who's had bypass . . . but . . . well . . the weight issue has been tough.
PS. You're a good dad :)

Cathy, I switched to more protein than carbs, eat healthier foods, and stopped late-night snacking.

And thank you.

Sounds like a very productive day. One in which you hit all the stop lights on the green, too. (Well except for the missed breakfast by D1.)

You're going to have to wear a hat next time I see you or I'll never recognize he new mini-you!

joated, that was all before lunch. Re: the hat, maybe I'll just wave an old XXL shirt. Heh.

That's good news! Now just keep it off!

Thanks, NFO. That's front-and-center in my awareness, these days.
