on the national "news" ...
Yesterday, even Fox News only reported some piddly little 5.1-magnitude 'quake in China which caused "dozens of people to run into the streets."
Give me a break.
Yesterday, there was a 7.0 earthquake about 65 miles southwest of Adak - which lasted for a solid minute & scared everyone pretty badly - followed by a series of aftershocks including a 6.1 last night.
I guess "hundreds of Alaska Natives" doesn't fit the narrative.

Nope, Pubs and out of sight out of mind... Hopefully everyone is okay. Of course there aren't a LOT of multi-story buildings on Adak either :-)
Hey! You're not CHINESE! You're not important.
Unless, of course, you're victims of a mass stabbing, then we'll ignore you - 'cause it's not guns.
Maroons!
gfa
You're right, NFO: nothing but one- and two-story buildings. The surprising part (to me) is that the population of Adak is up to 320. :)
Guffaw, that's true. Sadly.
Won't swear to it, since I read and cover a lot of online material, but I believe I did catch a headline referring to this.
But you're correct, you guys are largely ignored up there and it isn't right.
True enough, Matt. Personally, I'm torn between "why don't they ever mention the big stories from up here" and "if you don't want us to be a part of the U.S., there's a cure for that". Probably not politically correct, though (as if I cared).
Rev. Paul,
We only hear what the news media want us to hear. I hope everyone is okay up there?
Heck, how do you think Obama won the last election?
There were no injuries reported, Sandy. The earthquake protection in Alaska's building codes is the strictest in the nation, ever since the Good Friday 'quake in 1964; it registered a 9.2.
juvat, exactly the same way. "Low information voters" don't just happen; you have to raise them carefully. I'd insert a wry grin if it weren't so tragic for the nation.
That area is at the very rim of the rim of fire, isn't it?
Yes, WSF, it's part of the "rim". I lived there for two years, and we used to have a 5.2 or 5.3 quake weekly.
Hey I saw an article about the after shocks over at Yahoo news which came from AP I think.
Preppy, that's a bit surprising, but ... cool.
Three hundred twenty? Dayum... It's a population explosion!!! :-) But probably STILL only one tree... :-D
NFO, that's triple what they had a couple of years ago; not sure what's responsible for the "explosion". :)
Trees? The so-called Adak National Forest is now taller than the sign - but it's still only a dozen spruce trees.
