URGENT CALL TO REPENTANCE: All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord. And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee. For the Kingdom is the Lord’s and He rules among the nations. (Psalm 22:27-28)

Lessons Learned From Doctor Who
Since the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who is this Saturday (you knew that, right?), this seems an appropriate time* to post this:
Heh. My best friend I went through RoTC with was a huge Dr. Who fan and I gave him so much crap about it I think I hurt his feelings a couple of times.
Anyway it's just a natural knee jerk reaction I have now. I just can't help it.
Understood, Preppy. I had a love/hate relationship with the show back in the old days of cheesy effects. Since the reboot in 2005, it's movie-quality CGI & better writing (mostly).
Cathy, if you decided to watch, you should start with the 2005 re-boot (mentioned above) with Chris Eccleston & Billie Piper. It's good.
Teresa, Jon Pertwee was my first doctor. I personally find Tom Baker a VERY close second to David Tenant.
Chris was definitely under-rated, and I like him better each time I go back and watch that season again. And yeah, "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" were great episodes. :)
I've only been a fan since March but I have to say Nine is my favorite Doctor. He's fantastic. I seriously have no idea how I survived 25 years without the Doctor in my life. I have been driving my family crazy with Doctor Who all month! They'll be so glad when Saturday is over... Then I can annoy them with counting down to the Christmas special! :)
I was caught unfairly - having drunk too much to drive, I hunkered down on a friend's couch. They put Dr Who DVD into the player, and it was about nine episodes before I realized they were distinct episodes, and not commercial pauses.
BTW - I just downloaded TARDIS lock screen wallpaper for my phone. How fun. Never thought of it until someone posted about it over on fb. Well... yeah. I loved my sailboat wallpaper, but it is too depressing to see it every day and know we won't be sailing until May at the earliest. LOL.

20. Even low budget shows that try and pretend it is all cerebral resort to eye candy "extras".
21. Who needs good special effects?
22. If you change leading actors every season the fans will have "who was better" discussions for decades.
23. Thank God for Star Wars :)
Sigh... There's one in every crowd. :)

Hmmmm . . .. we've never watched this . . .
So . . . I'm guessing we haven't missed anything?

Number nineteen really strikes home. I'm a fan but haven't watched in a long, long time.
Agreed about #19, Stephen. You don't suppose it's because we're getting ..? Naw, can't be that. Never mind. :)
Yep, start with 2005. I'm dependent on Netflix, though, and they haven't loaded up anything past 2010.
Tom Baker remains my favorite Doctor. But Christopher Eccleston was a close second.
I have gotten away from the show, so I should go back and watch again and catch up with the more recent episodes. ;)
BTW - Chris had one show were everyone lived... just sayin'... LOL.
Thanks, PH. I have 'em all on Blu-Ray; they're so much better without the commercials.

Made sure that Becky didn't miss this one. lol

I imagine she'll appreciate it, threecollie. Make sure she thanks you. :)
Breezey, his performance was so understated that I still catch new things every time I see him again.
We're going to enjoy The Day of the Doctor, aren't we?

'S a fine show.

Let's hear it for Peter Davidson. He rocked the role in the old days. But that Tenant...Fantastic!
Wing, I think I know who that friend is. :) But yes, it's a great show. I've been hooked since the '70s.
Teresa, I have TARDIS wallpaper on my phone (personal & work), as well as my iPod. Doctor Who ringtones, too. Heh.
ML, you're right. Peter was a great Doctor - and also happens to be Tenant's father-in-law.
