Friday Potpourri

It's Only Guesswork Dept:  The Nat'l Weather Service (bless their darling hearts & empty heads) guesses we'll get 3" to 10" of snow in the next 36 hours. That's quite a range, so - assuming there's snow at all - they'll be able to point to some part of town or the hillside & claim, "See? We told you so!"

It's Always Wasilla Dept:
A Wasilla man faces felony DUI charges for driving his snowmachine while drunk on the Parks Highway Wednesday night, the Alaska State Troopers said.

Eric Hunter, 29, did not stop for troopers after they tried to pull him over near Mile 51 around 10:45 p.m. for illegally driving his Polaris snowmachine on a roadway, said Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman.

"He was doing stuff he wasn't supposed to do," Peters said.

Ya think?

Doubling Down Dept:
Sen. Mark Begich is facing a tough fight to keep his seat in the U.S. Senate. The Republican National Committee is putting in more effort in Alaska than ever before, according to its secretary who is visiting Alaska through the weekend. The race is already garnering national attention.

"It's an absolutely critical race. We want to take over the U.S. Senate," said RNC Secretary Demetra DeMonte.

... and then what, exactly, Repubs? I'd have a lot more confidence if your plan was more complicated than "Stop that man so we can stand around high-fiving each other!"

Repubs need to start thinking about transitions. What we have is a mess. Despite Dem declarations to the contrary, Repubs DO have alternative plans. However, there will have to be a way of bridging from one to another.

PH, I was referring to the Alaska Rs. I haven't heard a single thing from any of the multiple Senatorial contenders except "we need to take back the Senate!"

Something specific up here would be nice. Just sayin'.
