And the Winner Is...
The Associated Press and Fox News have called Alaska's senatorial race: Dan Sullivan (R) has unseated Mark Begich as Alaska's junior U.S. Senator.
In the gubernatorial race, the incumbent Sean Parnell (R) fell further behind Bill Walker (R? I?), with some votes still to be counted. The margin is still only about 4,000 votes, but that's a thousand or so more than a week ago. Walker has been ahead in the count, all along.
The final tallies won't be certified until at least Nov. 28.

Primary Election Results
in which you might be interested.
Dan Sullivan will be the Republican opposite Sen. Mark Begich in November. Joe Miller is in 2nd place, some 7,000 votes behind, with about 99% of ballots counted.
There was a ballot measure to repeal the current structure and go back to the previous one, in which the tax rate was higher, which would mean more for the State, yes? Except not so much, as it turned out: the rate was high enough that the oil companies closed several operations, the production rate was declining, jobs were lost to North Dakota and other places, and revenue fell off.
And it seems the good voters of Alaska had the sense to recognize that the current tax structure on oil production is working: production starting to go back up, new jobs created, new oil rigs due to come on line soon, and new fields under development.
Those are the only issues of any national impact. I now return you to the ongoing coverage of the riots (or not) in Missouri.
Or funny pictures of cats.

Anchorage 2nd Amendment Task Force: Alaska Senate Race
The Alaska Senatorial Election
Below you will find information to consider when voting for the Senate.
Mark Begich-Democrat
Mark Begich as Mayor of Anchorage was asked by Anchorage 2ATF member George Hines to remove the unlawful anti-gun signs around Anchorage. Begich refused and stated "It's the citizens responsibility to know his rights." When we asked the same of Mayor Sullivan he said we are right and most of the signs have been removed. Senator Begich has consistently voted for anti-gun appointees of the administration. Kagan and Sotomayor are examples. Agenda 21 affects land management, access and state management of hunting and fishing resources. Senator Begich is a proponent of UN Agenda 21. As mayor of Anchorage he enrolled Anchorage in ICLEI which is the organization implementing Agenda 21 locally. Opposition to Agenda 21 is vital if we are going to control our own resources and future.
Those not familiar with Agenda 21you can get a 10 minute glimpse HERE.
Dan Sullivan-Republican
Dan Sullivan claims he passed the "Stand Your Ground law." The facts dispute this claim. Dan Sullivan's name is on a letter from the Dept. of Law to Jay Ramras opposing the stand your ground law. You will find a copy of the letter attached to this email and it can be viewed at the link below on the state website. Dan Sullivan is a member of the CFR which is considered an arm of the UN. Everyone should be aware that the UN opposes the private ownership of arms. We have no evidence of Sullivan supporting or opposing UN Agenda 21 but as a member of the CFR he probably supports it. See the letter opposing stand your ground can be seen HERE. Click on HB381 LAW LETTER.pdf or see the attached copy of the letter.
Friday, June 20th, 2014 in a radio ad Senate candidate Dan Sullivan says he passed 'stand your ground' in Alaska.

Tom Anderson: Sullivan feeling a "Duty to Retreat"? READ HERE
Sullivan didn't want Alaskans to stand their ground.
PENINSULA CLARION HERE There are numorous articles about Sullivan and stand your ground from other sources.
Mead Treadwell-Republican
Lt. Governor Treadwell states he is in total support of the second amendment. Treadwell has been a supporter of UN Agenda 21 programs in Alaska. He claims to oppose Agenda 21 but the record says otherwise. The UN is rabidly opposed to private firearms ownership and we have concerns about how cozy Treadwell may be with UN policies. He has supported Law of the Sea and Coastal management programs. See an example HERE. Hopefully he will rethink his support for Agenda 21 programs.
Joe Miller-Republican
Joe Miller is considered a no compromise hardcore 2nd amendment advocate. We know Joe Miller is opposed to Agenda 21.
Mark Fish-Libertarian
Mark Fish is an uncompromising 2nd amendment supporter. He also owns black powder arms to modern. Fish is a fierce supporter of the Bill of Rights. Mark Fish states "Rights secured by the 2nd Amendment are absolute. Given the opportunity I would vote to repeal the GCA of 1934 and 1968 as well as abolish the BATFE." We know Mark Fish is opposed to Agenda 21. |

It's Only Guesswork Dept: The Nat'l Weather Service (bless their darling hearts & empty heads) guesses we'll get 3" to 10" of snow in the next 36 hours. That's quite a range, so - assuming there's snow at all - they'll be able to point to some part of town or the hillside & claim, "See? We told you so!"

... and then what, exactly, Repubs? I'd have a lot more confidence if your plan was more complicated than "Stop that man so we can stand around high-fiving each other!"
It's Always Wasilla Dept:
A Wasilla man faces felony DUI charges for driving his snowmachine while drunk on the Parks Highway Wednesday night, the Alaska State Troopers said.
Eric Hunter, 29, did not stop for troopers after they tried to pull him over near Mile 51 around 10:45 p.m. for illegally driving his Polaris snowmachine on a roadway, said Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman.
"He was doing stuff he wasn't supposed to do," Peters said.
Ya think?
Doubling Down Dept:
Sen. Mark Begich is facing a tough fight to keep his seat in the U.S. Senate. The Republican National Committee is putting in more effort in Alaska than ever before, according to its secretary who is visiting Alaska through the weekend. The race is already garnering national attention.
"It's an absolutely critical race. We want to take over the U.S. Senate," said RNC Secretary Demetra DeMonte.

Senate Race 2014
The field of candidates who'll try to unseat Mark Begich (D) as Alaska's junior senator is growing.
In no particular order, there's:
I think I missed one or two; my apologies if I left your favorite off the list.
In no particular order, there's:
- Dan Sullivan (R), 20-yr Marine office (retired), former Ass't Secretary of State under G.W. Bush, and recently stepped down from his post as head of Alaska's Natural Resources commissioner.
- Joe Miller (R), who defeated Lisa Murkowski (R) in her last primary, but shot himself in the foot (too libertarian for many, and immediately crucified in the local press as a wacko) and she was reelected as a write-in candidate.
- Mead Treadwell (R), current Lt. Governor.
- Kathleen Tonn (R), outspoken Christian and pro-life activist.
- John Jaramillo (R), Air Force veteran.
I think I missed one or two; my apologies if I left your favorite off the list.

Morning Update
You're Never Too Old Dept: A 78-year-old man - Alaskan mountain-climbing pioneer Tom Choate - has scaled Denali (Mt. McKinley to you Lower 49 folks).
In fact, he'll turn 79 in three months. So what's your excuse? (insert grin here)
* * * * *
Painstaking Word Dept: The air taxi crash in Soldotna over the weekend, which killed all 10 on board, will be a bit harder for the NTSB folks: there are no witnesses, voice recorder, or black box. Looks like this one will be one of those "put it all back together one piece at a time, and then try to find something wrong" cases.
Another complication: the fire was extensive, and there's not much of the plane left to reconstruct. This could take a while.
* * * * *
You Never Know Dept: U.S. News & World Report, among others, is reporting that former Gov. Sarah Palin is "mulling over" running for Mark Begich's (D-AK) Senate seat.
That could be interesting, as the leftist press here has gone out of its way to smear her reputation, every chance it gets. Hardly a day goes by when they don't say something snarky about "Our Sarah".
On the other hand, by refusing to talk about her, they've kept her in the public eye. Could it backfire on them? Anything's possible.

S. 3525: the Other Side of the Story
I posted earlier today about this bill. From the Gun Owners of America comes this bit of info:
Senator
Jon Tester (D-MT) -- who is “F”
rated by Gun Owners of America -- is pushing a “hunting” bill that
authorizes the Obama administration almost unlimited power to seize
private lands for
“environmental” purposes.
Anti-gun Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled Tester’s bill for a vote, and it will probably take place on Thursday.
ACTION: It is imperative that gun owners contact their Senators and ask them to OPPOSE S. 3525. Click
here to tell them
that the modest conservation gains allowed in the bill are totally
offset by giving unelected bureaucrats the authority to steal land from
hunters and private property
owners.
BACKGROUND
(1)
When the “wetlands” provisions of the Clean Water Act were originally
enacted, no one could have foreseen that a landowner would go to prison
for applying clean dirt to a junkyard adjacent to a sewer, which was
determined to be “wetlands.” But environmentalists have been brilliant
in taking seemingly innocuous programs and massively expanding them
through fraudulent interpretations
or tiny loopholes.
(2)
S. 3525 has “sweeteners.” It allows archery bows to be transported
through national parks under very limited circumstances, although Obama
could do this by administrative fiat. It also allows, but does not
mandate, Pittman-Robertson funds to be used for target ranges. But none
of these small discretionary provisions offset the potential damage this
does to the rights of individual landowners.
(3)
THE ISSUE OF LOST OPPORTUNITY: If this is the Democrats’ sop to gun
owners, it may make it a lot more difficult to secure national concealed
carry reciprocity or to stop anti-gun measures
and treaties.
THE CENTRAL PROBLEM WITH S. 3525
The
central problem with the bill is that it allows seizure of private
lands for “aquatic habitats” [Sections 201(8) and 204 (d) (2)]. The
definition of this term is limitless and includes seizure of lands in
order to “protec[t] the quality and quantity of water sources” and to
“serv[e] as a buffer protecting the aquatic environment.” [Section 201
(2)]
Thus,
a factory that “pollutes” can be seized to protect an “aquatic
habitat.” The only real limit on seizure in Section 204 is the
requirement that the government manage the
seized property “in accordance with the purposes of this subtitle.”
WHO ARE THE DECISION MAKERS?
The National Fish
Habitat Board consists of 27 members. The initial members (Obama
appointees) select the remaining members. Thus while the “commercial
fishing industry” supposedly has a representative, you can bet that that
fisherman is an Obama-supporter and will support his agenda.
The
board then enters into “partnerships” with, inter alia, outside groups.
And you can bet that every liberal environmental organization in the
country will now be feeding at this pig sty. The outside groups
recommend fish
habitat programs and plans for seizing private lands.
Bottom
line: This will give immense powers to unelected bureaucrats -- a
clear violation of the Separation of Powers which our Founders
implemented as a way of protecting our rights.
WHAT ABOUT SECTION 211 (e) (2)?
This
supposedly requires the consent of landowners prior to having their
lands seized. But, note the sneaky loophole: Section 211 (e) (2) applies
only to property that is being seized with
federal funds and, under Section 204 (e), half the funds need to come
from non-federal sources.
So
while this section is put forward as a “protection,” it actually
doesn’t provide total immunity because the government can take a land
owner’s property using non-federal funds -- and there is no protection
in the bill against that.
The Sportsmen's Act of 2012
If enacted, S. 3525
would combine various other bills as a legislative package supporting hunting, fishing and recreational
activities and habitat conservation programs.
I contacted Alaska's Senators and urged them to support the bill.
I got an interesting response from Senator Lisa Murkowski, which states in part, "I was, however, disappointed by the decision to leave out bipartisan measures that I believe are important to protect public access. Therefore, I have introduced an amendment (S. Amdt. 2850) designed to preserve the right to hunt and fish on public lands. The amendment would prevent attempts to limit access on federal lands and ensure that federal agencies cooperate with state fish and wildlife agencies when planning land use."
I ask you good folks to get on the horn to your Senators in support of both measures. Update: now that I've seen what GOA has to say about it, I've changed my mind. It's another land grab masquerading as them doing us a favor.
I shoulda knowed better.

Gun Control Tacked Onto the Cybersecurity Bill
Here we go again. From our friend Larry Correia:
You know what to do.
Just a heads up. http://thehill.com/video/senate/240657-cybersecurity-bill-includes-gun-control-measure It is from the usual suspects, Schumer, Lautenberg, Boxer, and Feinstein.
And when somebody tells you that the democrats aren’t in favor of gun control anymore, and it is a dead issue, and it is just silly to think that Obama wants to take your guns, blah blah friggin’ blah, laugh in their face. Because if the democrats are willing to push a magazine ban 4 months before the election, you know damn good and well what they are will be willing to do when Obama is in his second term.
Meanwhile, call your congressman and tell them to block this crap.
You know what to do.

Miller Endorsement
Via e-mail, I received this endorsement of Joe Miller from the Anchorage 2nd Amendment Task Force:
Anchorage 2nd Amendment Task Force Newsletter
Anchorage 2ATF Endorses Joe Miller For Senate
The forum decided unanimously to endorse Joe Miller for the Senate race. The forum members have spoken with many of the network members and the response for Miller was overwhelming after the July 22nd candidates forum. Network members like Miller's straight forward answers to questions. They said there was nothng concealed in his responses. There has been a great deal of concern about the Murkowski camp ignoring repeated requests to participate in the forum.
Senator Murkowski earned a D rating from the NRA until she started holding NRA Trap Shoot fund raisers which elevated her to an A rating. The Senator has voted against gun owner rights many times. She voted for the most un-American, anti-Second Amendment attorney general in the history of the United States which shows poor taste and judgment.
Gun Owners of America (GOA) labeled her as a 'compromiser' because of her drifting with the wind. How many times have the NRA and GOA urged us to write to Murkowski to persuade her to vote American? She eventually did change, but why was it necessary for us to write to her? What part of 'inalienable right' doesn't she understand?
Lisa stood against America with her vote to expand the gun ban in National Parks. She voted against the repeal of concealed carry restrictions and against the sale of confiscated weapons while in the State House. How short is the memory of the NRA? The NRA fell asleep at the wheel on this one. Human error?
The Senator now claims the NRA is endorsing her. Our inquiry to the NRA confirms this is not true. The NRA is endorsing the Republican Candidate. We were told the Senator claims Chris Cox of the NRA gave her the endorsement. Cox may have given his personal endorsement but Cox doesn't speak for the NRA on this issue.
Her opponent is Joe Miller, who earned his 'A' rating the hard way. He's displayed the same courage on his web site, by posting all relevant, historical documents about himself, as he displayed in combat. His background is infinitely superior and more qualified than Murkowski's was at any point in her life. We support Joe Miller for the next U.S. Senator from Alaska!!
All you have to do is fill the oval next to Millers name. You don't even need to know how to spell it...

The Campaigns That Just Won't Die
This just sucks.
"Sore loser" just doesn't quite cover it.
In a similar vein, Bill Walker - an "R" gubernatorial candidate who placed a distant second to the incumbent Sean Parnell - refuses to rule out a write-in campaign.
This is not good.

Miller's Attorney Calls for State Troopers to Guard Ballots
This seems to be getting serious. Excerpt:
From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage –
Van Flein (who is also Sarah Palin’s personal lawyer) is basing his complaint on the actions at the Mat-Su elections office of a Murkowski observer that he identifies as “Mike.” Van Flein writes in his complaint that “Mike” tried to bring a large bag into the room, against instructions, which Van Flein describes as a way to make ballots “disappear.”

Other bloggers and political observers have already noted that the entrenched establishment appears to be backing incumbents at the expense of challengers, even from their own party.
This could quickly get very ugly.
