Around Alaska, 3/3/14

He's At It Again:
"Former [Iditirod] champion Martin Buser was out of Finger Lake and on his way to the Rainy Pass checkpoint before 3 a.m. Monday with a half-hour lead on the field."

A Problem of Nuclear Proportions?
"As the Department of Energy moves to clean up remnants of Project Chariot -- a Cold War-era scheme to create a deepwater harbor in Northwest Alaska using nuclear blasts -- residents from a village near the proposed harbor say they’re still being lied to about nuclear bombs they believe were secretly buried and never removed."

Alaska Dept of Fish & Game Kills Wolf Pack; National Park Service Upset.
(AP) — Alaska Fish and Game officials killed an Eastern Interior wolf pack last week, and the National Park Service — which had been studying the animals — is none too pleased."

Good News for Humpbacks:

I was glad to see that last photo - wasn't exactly sure there was still room for the reindeer in that crowd.

Y'all have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!

The club must be for the runners who can't go in a straight line.
I've been known to do some fun winter runs but this year I just haven't had the motivation. Perhaps the reindeer could pull me on a sled.

Well, Max, they run on 4th Avenue downtown, which is a straight line. Maybe they have the onlookers lining the street to keep the racers from veering off course? :)

Veering into the bars is more like it... Before AND after the 'run'... :-)

NFO - despite Bob Hope referring to 4th Avenue, during WWII, as "the world's longest bar", there aren't but a few left now. Restaurants and cafes, yes. But your point is well-taken. :)

Well. If I have to run in front of a critter . . . better a reindeer than a herd of not-so-happy bulls.

That's a good point, Cathy - our reindeer are pretty small. :)
