The Hammer Museum

Haines, Alaska - The Hammer Museum offers a unique view of the past through the use of the hammer. From ancient times to the industrial age, the hammer tells the story of man’s progress and ingenuity.

The Hammer Museum opened in 2002, and it became a non-profit organization in 2004. The museum does not have any paid staff; it is run entirely by volunteers and it has a seven-member board.

The mission of the Hammer Museum is to research, identify, exhibit, and preserve the history and use of hammers for the education of the general public. Central to our mission is the intent to benefit both a worldwide and local community.

The Big Hammer
This just goes to show there's something for everyone. If hammers are your thing, then these folks have just the place for you.

I love Alaska.  :)

I hope no one who works there is named Maxwell.

Sarge, I already know. Peter, Paul & Mary knew, too. :)

Chickenmom, I'll allow you to stay away from the tools. Heh.

Preppy, only if they bring a silver one with them.

Always wondered what you guys did up there during those long winter nights....

Jim, Haines is 600+ miles from here, so the museum doesn't help much in Anchorage.

We have quirky museums of our own, here. :)

Rev. Paul,

If in the area, it would be a place to stop in and see the work one does with all their free time :-)

Okay, truthfully......I don't need a long winter night to make unique things.

Sandy, if/when we get back to southeast Alaska, we'll make a point of visiting Haines & the museum.
